Value Realization Body of Knowledge¶
The Value Realization Body of Knowledge (VRBoK) is the governed, portable, and generalized corpus of concepts, models, methods, practices, patterns, evidence, language, and guidance concerned with identifying, qualifying, quantifying, justifying, governing, verifying, realizing, validating, reporting, and sustaining value.
The VRBoK is broader than the Value Realization Framework and broader than the Canon. It provides the knowledge-system boundary within which authoritative doctrine, developing knowledge, source material, reference material, examples, Perspectives, and derivative artifacts can be governed without treating every artifact as equally authoritative.
Relationship to the Value Realization Framework¶
The Value Realization Framework is the principal organizing framework within the VRBoK. It structures the discipline through philosophy, perspectives, priorities, principles, Pillars, personas, performance measures, semantic models, governance, and related constructs.
The Framework does not exhaust the VRBoK. The broader VRBoK may also contain:
- governed Practices, Patterns, methods, maturity progressions, and capability models;
- research, evidence, references, and source material;
- reusable language and explanatory material;
- implementation guidance and adoption aids;
- provisional Perspectives and proposed changes;
- historical decisions, deprecated content, and superseded artifacts;
- derivative outputs whose relationship to authoritative sources is explicit.
Knowledge Architecture¶

Canonical Authority¶
Canon is retained as the authority designation within the VRBoK. Content is canonical only when it has been accepted through the applicable governance process and incorporated into an authoritative artifact.
The following uses remain valid and controlled:
- canonical content;
- canonical definition;
- canonical source;
- canonical decision;
- canonical status;
- canonical authority;
- Canonical Review Backlog.
The term Canon should not be used as an indiscriminate label for the complete repository, every document, every library item, or every artifact associated with the VRBoK.
Authority and Lifecycle Status¶
Every material knowledge object should make its authority and lifecycle sufficiently clear. The preferred status vocabulary is:

Scope Boundary¶
The VRBoK is intended to remain portable, generalized, and usable independently of Alescent-specific legal, commercial, operating, brand, or institutional structures.
Alescent-specific application and institutional knowledge belongs in the Alescent Body of Knowledge (ABoK). The ABoK may apply, extend, operationalize, commercialize, and package VRBoK concepts, but it must not silently redefine portable Value Realization doctrine.
Governance¶
The VRBoK is governed through:
- the Value Realization Semantic Model and controlled vocabulary;
- Canon governance and canonical authority rules;
- the Canonical Review Backlog and its item pages;
- the Change Register and decision records;
- source-intake and evidence-preservation practices;
- derivative-asset and publishing controls;
- explicit authority, lifecycle, and relationship metadata.
